Summer Skincare Routine & My USANA Results

A little while back on the blog I shared a post about how I was Spring cleaning my routine with the help of USANA. I completed a 28 day test period of a supplement routine specifically created for me to reach my personal health goals which were to:

  1. make progress towards having clearer skin
  2. balance out my energy levels

…so now it’s (finally) time to write up how I found the month with USANA and I figured I would share a little about my skincare routine at the same time.

28 Days Later With USANA

I was on a bit of a supplement schedule for these 28 days which consisted of me taking 1 sachet of the Healthpak (which contains 5 different tablets) in the morning with breakfast and one in the evening with dinner. I then had to take 2 capsules of the BiOmega with breakfast and the Probiotic sachet was one every other day for the first week, and then one per day for the rest of the month. Based on my own personal choice and preference of supplements, the USANA products that were recommended to me were exactly what I would choose to take anyway especially including getting a daily dose of fish oil and magnesium. My Gut Health And Diet

If there is one thing I’ve learnt over the past few years, it’s that pretty much everything can be linked back to your gut health. Our digestive system is the biggest organ that we have and it’s vital to our health through its key role of absorbing the nutrients from the food we eat as well as removing waste materials from our body. The function of the digestive system relies heavily on the balance of bacteria within it; for example too little friendly bacteria can lead to sluggish digestion, weakened immune function, and susceptibility to infection. And that’s where Probiotics come in; the USANA Probiotic sachet contains 12 billion colony-forming bacteria per serving to help support healthy digestion and I could feel the effects of this after taking my first sachet! …let’s just say that I became more “regular” than normal which is a good thing… it lets me know that my digestive system is working to keep me well! I loved that you could mix the sachet with any drink you wanted (although not advisable to mix with hot drinks) so I always mixed it with water to help me increase my water uptake at the same time. The sachets had minimal taste so even with water it was easy to take!

I was also advised by the Nutritionist to eat more veg and to do a little breakfast swap from Weetabix to porridge to Rude Health Granola which I did do. I always find that buying fresh veg sometimes results in waste for me so I would also keep a good stock of frozen veg portions that could be cooked in a few minutes in the microwave.

I Can Leave The House Without Make Up

I’m currently at the point with my skin where I feel comfortable to leave the house without make up and not feel overly paranoid which if you’ve been following my journey you’ll know is a huge step. I started the year by sharing my discovery with you about post-pill acne which I hoped that my trial of the USANA products would help me fight. Now I’ve completed my course of antibiotics and I’ve finished my 28 day USANA trial I’m settling into a skincare routine that will hopefully have me continue to feel confident about my skin…

My Summer Skincare Routine On Days I Sweat

Cleanse: I’m currently using a basic oil cleanse as a way to clean my face in the morning using Jojoba oil. It probably sounds counter-productive if you have oily skin like me but oil is one of the best things to break down other oils. So it’s great for removing make up, reducing sebum (your skins natural oil) and keeping your skin moisturised all day. I also regularly use Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser which is a fancier version of the same thing. With either product I just massage a small amount into my skin, then rinse the muslin cloth in hot water before using it to remove the oil or cleanser. The cloth is great as it also acts as a gentle exfoliator for your skin!

Moisturise: I’m not even sure what I had been using previously but I ended up switching to The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA to keep my skin well hydrated as I’d been told some time ago that my skin was dehydrated. I also picked up their Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and their salicylic acid 2% solution to help with any spots / breakouts. 

Last but not least, I keep make up to a minimum these days. Mascara and eyebrow pencil are non negotiable but then I sometimes use a bit of concealer if I feel I need it followed by a spritz of face mist and fix. Voila! …job done.
