The Simple Why’s Behind Getting “Fit”

Love it or hate it, we all know that we could probably eat a little more healthily and get a bit more exercise, but this is sometimes easier said than done. So, what are the main benefits of keeping fit and how can we achieve this magic fitness?! Well, the good news is it’s doable whether you have 20 minutes or 2 hours a day — every little helps.

One of the first things that you need to do is to assess your existing fitness levels to see where your current fitness baseline is; this will be a good indicator as to what you need to do to increase your fitness. However, it is always recommended that you consult a doctor before embarking on any exercise program.

If you are looking to lose weight, tone up or to simply improve your overall fitness, mixing cardiovascular exercise with muscle toning techniques such as weight training is an ideal start. Exercise can also help with improving your bone density, which can prevent diseases like osteoporosis in the future.

From running and swimming to ballet and boxing, there is a sport or physical activity for everyone. You don’t have to be an expert, and sometimes, it is fun to learn a new skill. Plus, you will have the opportunity to meet like-minded people and make new friends at the same time!

Coupling your fitness routine with modifying your calorie intake by making good food choices, drinking lots of water and looking after your general well-being such as ensuring that you get sufficient levels of sleep, you will soon start to see significant improvements to your body.

As well as toning and keeping you fit, exercise can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy. It also helps with reducing your risk of stress, depression and dementia. It is also well-known that exercise can make you feel happier and more content. Physical activity boosts endorphins and can regulate anxiety and stress. Aaaannnd, it can increase levels of serotonin, which can relieve feelings of depression.

One of the benefits of exercising regularly is the positive impact that it can have on your cognitive faculties. By undertaking more physical activity, you can help clear your mind and feel more switched on.

An example of this is Lex Veldhuis, who is both a professional poker player and a keen kickboxer. He believes that there is a direct correlation between exercise and mental agility. He also claims that he is “a lot sharper and more focused, and even calmer” thanks to undertaking physical activity.

There are so many reasons why we should all make time to exercise. It doesn’t matter if you are already reasonably fit or are just getting started, there are so many benefits to increasing your level of fitness. No matter what level you are starting at, you will see significant improvements in both your body, mind and spirit.
