5 Activewear Essentials You Need in Your Wardrobe

Let me guess: one of your New Year’s resolutions is to improve your physical fitness in 2020.

If it is, I don’t blame you.

After all, there are many benefits to losing a few pounds and toning up post-Christmas, from increasing our energy levels to inspiring confidence.

The only thing is: it can be difficult to find the motivation in the cold wintery months. Am I right?

That said, I find that owning these 5 activewear essentials helps massively. I mean, if you look good and feel comfortable, this then encourages you to be proactive with your workouts – and that’s how you get results.

5 Activewear Essentials You Need in Your Wardrobe

1. Sports Bra

Activewear essentials 101: it’s so important to wear a sports bra that fits well for any type of exercise.

Why? Well, a good sports bra in a moisture-wicking fabric will make sure your chest is fully supported and sweat-free during your gym session, run or workout class.

And do you know what this means? You can go full steam ahead for longer. True story.

2. Trainers

Next up, comfy trainers are a must for prolonged periods of activity.

If they’re a size too small or rub your feet, forget it. We don’t want you here.

Instead, opt for a pair that are specific for your purpose, i.e. running shoes for running. If they’re flexible and breathable then this also helps a ton.

And the rule of thumb when it comes to the fit? There should be approximately 3/8 – 1/2 inch between the front of your big shoe and the end of the shoe and your heel shouldn’t slip when you walk. Simple.

    3. Stretchy Leggings

Comfy leggings are one of the key activewear essentials all year round.

And if they’re made of cotton, nylon, spandex, polyester or a spandex-nylon blend? Even better!

After all, soft and stretchy fabrics are what you should aim for when creating your workout wardrobe.

Personally, I like a pair in a staple colour, like black, grey or navy, but it’s totally up to you whether you decide on a solid hue or a printed multi-coloured option.

Either way, just make sure they fit well and they provide you with a good range of motion and you’re golden.

    4. Breathable Top

Additionally, you should wear loose-fitting tops when exercising that allow you to move and feel free.

Whether this is a long-sleeved top to tackle freezing temperatures or a breathable vest, choose cotton fabric whenever possible. Not only is cotton good in quality and lightweight, but it will also allow airflow for drying out perspiration and absorbing excess moisture.

And bonus style points if your workout top coordinates with your leggings.

    5. Warm Layer

Finally, a warm layer to throw on over your workout outfit is imperative during cold weather.

In particular, putting one on post-exercise will keep your muscles warm while minimising trauma to essentially speed up the recovery process. Winning.

From a snugly oversized hoodie to a zip-up shell jacket, there are many functional yet fashionable versions that will put the perfect finishing touch on your activewear.

Get the Most Out of Your Workout With Your Activewear Essentials

Building your exercising wardrobe can take time and money, but it’s important to do it right.

After all, by including these 5 activewear essentials, you can increase your comfort level while staying stylish.

And this will ultimately improve your workout performance through 2020 and beyond!

Thanks for sharing your active wear essentials and tips for finding the right fit. I went for a gait analysis to help find a comfortable pair of trainers suitable for my running style; I think most running/sports shops offer this for free if you purchase a pair of trainers from them. Also, I love the fit of Fabletics leggings – figure hugging but also very stretchy! 🙂
