Post Juice Cleanse Update

Hooray! …I successfully completed my 5 day juice cleanse!

So, since my update during the cleanse…here is what went down πŸ™‚

(click here for mid, and here for pre)

juice, juice, juice…

Day 4 – Friday
Wow! I woke up today and still felt amazing! Even after going so hard last night with the running and squatting! With a busy day scheduled I was sure this would help keep me focused!

Tip: I purchased a lunchbox sized cool bag to carry my juices around with me (with additional ice packs)

Exercise wise, I went a little crazy again! One power plate class, an Olympic Weightlifting class and lots of stretching / massage on the power plate in between.

I tried to keep a good eye on the amount of water I drank but I think I managed only 5 out of 8 (one less than recommended by Soulmate Food).

Day 5 – Saturday
Today was an interesting day (mainly for a very feminine reason *uh hum*) I woke up bright and early and started my day with a cup of peppermint tea. I hurried off to teach NTC in Victoria Park; by the time I got started I was full of energy. Having been so energetic the last few days I had booked a class for this afternoon but by the time I travelled to the other side of London, I realised how tired my body was and how much I needed a rest!

Tip: Always listen to your body. Your training is pointless if you don’t give your body time to assimilate all the hard work you put in!

Cancelling class was the best thing I could of done! I still hit my daily NikeFuel goal through some window shopping so it was still a successful day!

Day 1 – Post Cleanse – Sunday
My first official day back on food! Yay! …actually not that big a deal as you would expect…after all you don’t want to put all your good work to waste huh?!

I started the day with the same juice from the last 4 days (remember my juices didn’t arrive on time for Day 1?!) as well some Urban Fruit dried pineapple and headed out to cheer on friends running a half marathon this Sunday morning. Whilst handing out jelly babies to wearing runners I nibbled about 4 of them myself. This is very reserved for me, but may be due to the fact I’m not a huge jelly baby fan! I also nibbled two little squares of something I picked up from Honestly Healthy which tasted like it was based on dates with a couple of nuts!

I then had juices 2 and 5 left from Day 1; when I went to drink juice 2 it fizzed when I opened it! I noticed juice 2 had tasted fizzy over pretty much all the days…it was pineapple, banana and coconut. It didn’t smell funny but it certainly tasted not so right…hmmmmmm. So I skipped it (poured it down the sink) and drank juice 5 instead over a number of hours along with some small bits of solid food (a Peruvian dish of mashed potato and minced meat, a Caribbean salt fish pattie, a plum…oh and some more of those square date things!)

I still hit my NikeFuel goal today mainly through walking to my cheering point at the race and some housework!

Days 2 – 5
I ventured into a supermarket and enjoyed the aroma of fresh bread baking…strolled past the cookies…and glanced at the chocolate! All without an urge to make a purchase. When I came to the smoothie aisle though, even a great 2 for £4 offer couldn’t tempt me; I opted for fresh…solid fruit instead.

My appetite has somewhat reduced and I’ve been having smaller more regular meals as with the juice every two hours kinda protocol. I’m still focusing on trying to increase my fluid intake; its just difficult when you are out and about constantly needing the bathroom!

For breakfast I’ve so far stuck to a fruit based drink, a piece of fruit and a cup of peppermint tea. For my other meals I’ve so far been munching on homemade pulled pork, mackerel, tabbouleh, halloumi and lentils.

Also, we all know not to judge our fitness journeys through what the scales say but at the same time weight does play a part! Here are the results on the scales pre, during and post juice cleanse:

65.2kg – pre

62.4kg – during (day 4)

62.7kg – post

I’m not saying this is all down to the juice cleanse at all though; as you know I have been working out in my Zaggora Hot Pants as much as possible and I’ve also been hitting it hard at the gym but altogether it clearly is a winning combination. Plus I have read that weight loss on a juice cleanse isn’t long lasting as it’s mostly just water loss. But I’m using my weight measurement as an overall result for all the hard work I have been putting in over the weeks πŸ™‚

During the juice cleanse my skin cleared up so well and looked amazing! But within one day of resuming normality I have pimples again πŸ™ not much I can do about that is there?! Unless I want to spend the rest of my life on juices! Pah!

So, no, it’s not easy drinking a juice next to your mate sipping a gin and tonic…but it blooming well is worth it!
