The Rabbit Rundown 26.4.14 #MyMoments

race day is here!

Saturday saw me complete the first race in my 2014 running calendar! After two weeks of suffering with a cold I had no plan but to finish the run and have a good laugh! When I checked the weather forecast the night before there was a 60% chance that it would be raining all morning! Bummer!

08:15am. When I woke up and saw the sun trying to rear its head I was a little more than grateful! My friend Alicia and I started off our morning with a breakfast of granola, yoghurt and banana; fuel to get us through the run and back home!

09:30am. In the interest of time, we ran the 1km to our nearest tube station and arrived bright and early to pick up our race numbers and rabbit suits! Just in time before the queue started to get a little longer…

10:40am. The plan was to run the warm up for all the runners. I even picked out a couple tunes to play including Pharrell’s Happy! If any song could get us smiling on a chilly wet morning it was that! Unfortunately, there was no sound system but the weather was decent meaning music was not essential! Me, a megaphone and a few moves to get us warmed up…

on route

It was a pretty interesting route for me..as often as I have taught at Clapham Common I’ve never actually seen the whole thing! Due to the slightly wet weather in the run up to race morning, the route was a little like what I expect trail running would be! A bit of mud here and there, with different running surfaces!

The bunny suits were surprisingly comfy! As the morning was a bit chilly the suit actually kept me as warm as I needed to be! My bunny hood stayed on for the majority of the race…I took it off myself when I saw that everyone else had!

The marshals along the route were fantastically motivating and encouraging! We ran a bit and walked a bit. Our pace was set to be my slowest 5km in a long time but I was just happy to be outdoors, running and being active again!

11.35am. At the end of the course, we were given goody bags which contained our medals! My first piece of bling for 2014!

medal 🙂

11:45am. Some more selfies of course…

Before we headed home…in our bunny suits! First there were 4, then there were 2 when Alicia and I parted with Harriet and Jen…

Plenty of people wondering and some asking why we were dressed up…

…for charity of course! Definitely one to look out for in 2015!

Next on my race calendar is a 10km leg of the Geneva Marathon! In under one week!

What run events have you taken part in over the last few weeks?! Anything coming up soon?!

If you have taken part in a great event and would like to share a write up then please contact me!

Did you not get hot? Far out I would have been roasting, but it looks like so much fun. Would have been awesome if Alice was chasing you.

It was the perfect temperature for the bunny suit! plus they were quite thin and breathable! 🙂 …hahaha! now that would be a race to remember! …maybe we should create the Alice in Wonderland run!! 😉
