So after my amazing journey to triathlon {read about that here} and saying all my Thank You’s, I wanted to give a shout out to theย little things that made a big difference come race day.
I picked out my top 5 triathlon essentials to share with you:ย
1. Swim Seal Ear Drops*
Being a little apprehensive about swimming in the River Thames, this couldn’t have come at a better time!
“Two to three drops ofย SwimSeal in each ear creates a natural barrier to external infection.ย ย This natural SwimSeal barrier prevents waterย fromย being trapped in the ear canal, where ear infections are most common, thusย alleviating further pain and discomfort.”
I also loved the smell of it – tree tree oil – and I’m pleased to report that I had no issues with water in my ears! I did think though that the barrierย createdย meant I could literally feel the water being stopped which was a new andย strangeย sensation!
2. activbod Gym Towel*
This bad boy was pretty amazing! It comes with a zippered compartment which I used to store the most valuable things (i.e my iPhone) I took into transition and didn’t want to get wet. I then used it to get my hands and arms dry after the swim so it was smoother to get ready for the cycle. It also doubled up as something bright to help me spot my bike in the transition area.
3. activbod Mind Over Matter Balm*
This one was for my mind, for the nerves to helpย kick start me on what was a chillyย andย very early morning! It helps to focus the mind and get you into the zone with a stimulating blend of rosemary, peppermint and bergamot essential oils. Peppermint also helps clear the respiratory tract for the perfect pre-exercise pick-me-up. I kept it stowed away in my gym towel zipperย compartmentย for between disciplines!

4. Race Belt
This one is totally functional. It just makes life so much easier when you can attach your race number once and be done with it! For the cycle you spin the bib round to the back and then spin it round to the front for the run! It takes a few seconds to clip on in the first place after your swim and can fit your gels too!
5. Svelte Arm Warmers
I wasn’t sure what the weather was going to be like so I wanted to wear a short sleeved top but have the option for more coverage should it be colder than expected. I backed these guys on kickstarter and they kindly sent my pair through in time for race day. I loved the print – it helped people to spot me quickly and also got me a fair bit of attention! They were so comfy and kept me at the perfect temperature meaning I didn’t need to roll them down or take them off! The grips were perfect and nothing moved for the whole 30km I was on the bike nor on my 5km run!
