Who Are You, When You Workout?!

Years and years ago, I remember going to a class with a friend and afterwards us having a giggle about how I make a “bad participant”! As I have taught more and more, I’ve come across many different characters in my classes…I’ve seen most of the tricks in the book, mainly because I have tried them all in the past! Y’know…only going full out when you are in the sight line of the instructor…been there, done that!

My name is Elle, and I am a bad participant!

Well, I’m not all bad! Here are the many different characteristics of mine that come out during a workout…

Ms Hypochondriac

This one comes out right at the start of class. When the instructor asks “does anyone have any injuries I need to know about?”. I always have something the instructor needs to know about. I then remind the instructor about said need to know injury when the going gets tough on a particular exercise…

Ms Moany Pants

Ms Hypochondriac is good friends with Ms Moany Pants. She chimes in when an exercise burns or is generally hard work! …seriously 2 minute plank?! But we did a minute at the start of class!

Ms Clock Watcher

This is a sin I commit myself when I teach. A Trainers version of seconds significantly differ to those dictated by an actual clock. 5…5…5…5…hmmmm. I’m keeping count in my head until it gets too much and I vocalise the actual, accurate timings that should be going on!

Ms Motivator

It seems to be inbuilt for me – I love to encourage others to keep going! If I see the person next to me flagging, Ms Motivator goes on autopilot with everything I can think of to help them get through to the end of the set! You got this!!!

Ms Chatty

I think she is a distraction. To take my mind off of the torture I am being put through. That and maybe to make the instructor lose focus, get thrown off and we don’t have to work as hard?! Ms Chatty rarely ever succeeds but it’s worth a try, eh?!

Ms Hypercritical

Being a professional myself, Miss Hypercritical raises her head in every single class. I set high standards for myself as an instructor and expect this of every instructor that I put my body in the hands of! Check out my post, 10 Reasons to Love Your Instructor / PT to see what we should all be looking out for…

Ms Oh Are We Done Already?!

…cos I think I could’ve given a little bit more! I tend to save myself for the end and then the end comes and there’s still some energy left in the tank! Need to find that balance…how to pace myself so that I give all I can in class and still have the energy to get on with my day!

Can you see any of these characters in yourself?! or are you someone completely different?!

Who are you, when you workout?!

Elle 🙂 x

Ha! I'm definitely not a Miss Anything, but I'm definitely a Mr. Motivator; and most of the time, Mr. Chatty too. Hilarious post, Elle!

This is so cute and awesome! As an instructor when I teach I work hard to be Ms. Motivator, I want to keep my class pumped and going all throughout. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes at home I tend to be Ms. Clock-Watcher. I try hard not be but just can't help it sometimes. I should share this with some of the women that take my class, especially Ms. I Know Everything and Want to Tell the Instructor how to teach woman. With her sometimes I want to be Ms. Why Don't You Teach Your Own Class! 😉
