I’ve had my eye on a Flexispot desk since I moved into my office / studio (kisE Studio in Loughton) but when I started thinking long term for my home office, I decided a sit-stand desk was the way to go.
Not only are there numerous health benefits, they also work well in small spaces. I took delivery of the Flexispot E7 PRO a couple of months or so ago (when writing this) so I could do a desk review and let you know if the E7 PRO is potentially the best Flexispot standing desk.
Benefits Of Adjustable Height Desks
I think I first came across the idea of electric standing desks through Instagram and TikTok. In recent years they’ve really surged in popularity due to the health benefits and the growing awareness of how bad spending too much time sitting is for us. A standing position helps to promote better posture and encourages more movement throughout the day.
I know since 2020, I’ve been hitting much lower step counts each day than previous to that. I did also purchase a WalkingPad last year to help me get more steps in without leaving home and it’s a great accessory to use with an adjustable height desk.
Best Flexispot Standing Desk – Flexispot E7 PRO Review
When it came to choosing my first standing desk – the E7 PRO – the first choice was the colour of the metal frame. I went for white but you also have the option of a black frame.
The customisation options continue with choosing the colour and size of the desktop. The E7 PRO desk frame can be adjusted to fit the various sizes of the desk top, and I imagine you could even make your own to help lower the price.
I chose the 120cm x 60cm bamboo top in white to match the frame and also fit the aesthetic of my office space and other office furniture. This desktop size is the lowest depth offered but gives me plenty of space on the top of the desk for my laptop and a few other bits.
You can also add an ergonomic chair to your order alongside various accessories such as an under desk drawer, monitor arms, workstations, keyboard tray, CPU holders and more.
At the time I got my desk, there was a cable tray which keeps the wires of the desk contained but those all no longer available. In hindsight, I probably would have added a power strip but for now I’m using one I already own and will look for some decent cable management solutions soon.
One of the first things I noticed about the desk when I took delivery was the high quality, which warrants the price point. Yes you can buy a standing desk or kitchen tables (yes, that’s what I used in my office before this) for a lower price but you most likely won’t get such a well-built desk.
The E7 PRO has a height range of 63.5-128.5cm (without the desktop) using dual motors. The desk height changes super quick, smooth and quiet. The maximum weight the desk can take is 160kg – well over twice my bodyweight.
Setting Up The E7 PRO
The desk was delivered in two packages with a total weight of almost 40kg so you’re going to need the help of another person who can do the heavy lifting with you. The assembly process was straight forward with plenty of pre-drilled holes for included screws where needed.
The E7 PRO is an electric desk so needs a power supply. The keypad has a control panel and usb port which is a useful power supply. I do think 2 usb ports would be useful, and / or including USB Type C as they are being used more and more often; my laptop and ipad both use a Type C.
I’ve got my keypad on the left side of the desk but it can also be placed on the right side.
To finish my set-up in due course, I think I will purchase a cable management system to reduce all the cables you can see in the images.
I’m also considering adding a standing mat, but I’ve not decided yet which is the best standing desk mat to go for. A standing mat is supposed to provide essential support and cushioning that helps reduce fatigue and discomfort associated with long periods of standing.
Flexispot E7 PRO Features
If you’re sharing the desk with someone else and you need different heights, one of the great features of the E7 PRO is that you can save height memory using the memory presets. A s it’s just me, I’ve programmed the standing and seated height for now and have two spare buttons which can be programmed in future.
One of the most useful features is the anti collision, especially for when I’m using it with the WalkingPad which needs to have the grab bar up when in use. If I forget or accidentally try to lower the desk with something under it, the desk stops. It also features a child lock which will be useful if you have children in your space.
Styling My New Desk & Office Space
So the last part of my desk set up was styling it and deciding what to have on / around it. I asked for suggestions from my Instagram friends and they gave me so many good ideas. I sourced pretty much everything from what I already had.
Here are some of the suggestions:
- plants
- framed picture (to be added)
- desk tidy
- clock (I use my ipad but forgot to place it for these pictures)
- lamp (I’ve had this Anglepoise lamp stood on my chest of drawers for years never being used!)
- artwork on wall (used a frame and artwork that was no longer in use in my bedroom since upgrading my bed)
- affirmation cards (need to dig these out)
- mug (used one of my ‘women of colour cycling’ mugs)
- notebooks
- something quirky / personal to me
I also have my portable speaker, a bluetooth keyboard (and mouse I need to find) from my defunct iMac, a Quad Lock Wireless Charging Pad for my phone, a camping mug to hold my pens, pencils and other stationary and a laptop stand to bring my laptop closer to eye level when standing. .
I’m so happy to be able to bring you this Flexispot E7 PRO Review, and to be able to speak to what great products they make! For the quality and notable features, they are great value. Not sure if it’s just me, but having a great desk has contributed to a more productive working day.
Since switching to the sit/stand desk, I have less long periods of being in a seated position, I hit my daily step goal more consistently (I can hit around 2,000 steps in around 20-30minutes), which adds up to a less sedentary lifestyle.
I definitely think Flexispots desks are some of the best standing desks available. The E7 PRO in particular is a top pick in my opinion. Would you agree?
Have you been converted to a motorised standing desk or are you still sticking with a regular sitting desk?
