In the last 8 months, I’ve gained a lot of experience cycle commuting about London. My first real group cycle was in November of 2013 during the City Sights Tour with lululemon Covent Garden.
Since then, a lot has happened – the new lululemon store opened in Covent Garden in March and before we knew it summer was here! Time to get on our bikes again…
This time, I was organising the event and not just joining in on the day. Adrian agreed to lead the ride again while Ally, one of our store ambassadors co lead along with friend and blogger, PT Mollie.
I checked the weather before bed on Saturday night and no rain was forecast. However, when I woke up at 730am it was raining and the forecast had changed. I remained hopeful that the weather would hold up for us and it sure did. The roads were still wet, but it was a beautiful temperature for a ride.
We met at the store at 930am and set off promptly at 945am with everyone on two wheels from road bikes to Boris bikes! We headed straight for The Strand and onto Pall Mall where they were busy setting up for the Tour de France finish. The road was closed so it was a glorious and free cycle down Pall Mall towards Buckingham Palace where we even got a preview of the horse parade.
Over to Hyde Park, along the Serpentine before we headed around the back of Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, through Goodge Street and then heading back to Covent Garden. The hour flew by – chatting to everyone and finding out more about them and their cycling habits made it so enjoyable. Cycling in a group is great too as other traffic on the road has more respect for you when you’re en mass!
We got back to the store in time to pop our bikes away and get ourselves onto a mat ready for an hour of yoga with Rachel Perry.
All in all, I think the cycle totalled about 6 miles at a steady pace. A huge Thank You to Adrian, Ally and Mollie as well as everyone who joined us despite the not so perfect weather!
